Belarusian exports to Sweden dropped by 46 percent in the first quarter of 2009, Swedish Ambassador Stefan Eriksson said at a news conference in Minsk on Monday.
The exports amounted to 271 million Swedish kronas in the first three months of 2008 compared with 146 million kronas in the same period of this year, the ambassador noted.
Swedish exports to Belarus increased by 41 percent year-on-year in the first three months of this year, from 119 million to 277 million kronas.
“But let’s be optimistic and hope that the situation will improve,” Mr. Eriksson said. Swedish companies and, in particular, the IKEA furniture manufacturer want to actively cooperate with Belarus, he said.
