Belarusian-Qatari joint projects in third countries possible

Belarusian head of state Alexander Lukashenko believes Belarus and Qatar may implement joint projects in third countries. The President made the relevant statement as he met with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah al-Thani on April 13.

“I am glad that we have reached an agreement to work together in third countries, to carry out specific programmes, particularly in the countries you often invest in,” remarked Alexander Lukashenko. Cooperation “based on Belarusian technologies, machines assisted by Qatari finance will generate very big dividends for us,” he underscored.

The head of state stated that Belarus believes Qatar to be a promising partner and a close friend and sees major prospects in invigorating the bilateral economic cooperation, primarily, in the area of investments. Interests of Qatar may be also implemented in power engineering, telecommunications, civil engineering, agriculture, establishment of joint ventures for manufacturing industrial goods and food, commercialising high technologies Belarus has as well as in tourism and hotel business.

“I think further enhancement of cooperation with our country may open up good opportunities for Qatar to develop relations with the entire Central and Eastern Europe, the entire post-Soviet space. Belarus is an important economic and political factor here,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President underscored Belarus is intent on continuing productive cooperation with Qatar in international organisations on the basis of the affinity of views and mutual consideration of interests, intent on coordinating approaches to countering the dictate in the global politics. Belarus is also ready for further enhancement of partnership with Qatar in mutual support of foreign policy initiatives within the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement. “It is important that we have managed to establish trust relations, within a comparatively short period of time. We would very much like these relations to develop for the sake of the common good year by year,” said the Belarusian head of state.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, this meeting with the Emir of Qatar is another confirmation of the genuinely friendly relations between the two countries. Belarus closely watches Qatar successes, its sweeping economic development and highly evaluates the efforts and achievements of Qatar in foreign policy, pointing out its important role in maintaining the regional security.
