EBRD to establish partner relations with more Belarusian banks

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) plans to establish the number of partner relations with more Belarusian banks, head of the EBRD Office in Belarus Valdas Vitkauskas said during a ceremony of opening the regional office of the Belarusian Bank for Small Business in Grodno.

“We are examining one or two banks in Belarus. Now the banks are summing up their last year’s financial results, carrying out audits, therefore agreements can be signed no earlier than mid summer,” Valdas Vitkauskas said.

According to him, this year the EBRD continues working with five Belarusian banks: Priorbank, Belgazprombank, Belrosbank, Minsk Transit Bank, RRB-Bank. As one of the founders of the Belarusian Bank for Small Business, the EBRD will continue providing financial support to the bank, Valdas Vitkauskas said,

As for the participation of the EBRD in financing of Belarusian investment projects, he said that this year Pinskdrev is implementing a large project in energy efficiency. “We have received several other proposals to provide lending to some other smaller companies. Yet, no decision has been taken so far,” he said.

“There will no shortage of loan resources this year,” he said. The EBRD took a decision to increase the financing in the post-Soviet Union countries up to €7 billion, up €1 billion over last year.

“Most important in today’s economic conditions is to find good projects which would ensure a good return on investments,” Valdas Vitkauskas said.
