Belarus, Brandenburg to implement wind power project

Belarus and German Federal Land Brandenburg plan to implement an investment project in wind power, said Minister-President of German Federal Land Brandenburg Matthias Platzeck following the meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Martynov on April 6.

“We are approaching the implementation of joint investment projects in wind power. Some companies in Brandenburg are interested in it,” he said.

“I think it is important that wind power engineering occupies a more significant part in the power engineering system of the country, Matthias Platzeck said. For example, about 30% of energy of Federal Land Brandenburg is generated from renewable sources of energy. He added that Belarus and Brandenburg have similar geographical positions and are landlocked territories.

The Minister-President noted that the negotiations touched upon a wide range of issues, including energy efficiency, logistics, agriculture and transit. Apart from that, the participants decided to expand academic exchange programmes between children and youth of Belarus and Brandenburg.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov noted that the trade between Belarus and Brandenburg rose 2.5 times in 2008. The most important aspects of the bilateral cooperation include trade and production cooperation. The sides discussed the certification of Belarusian agricultural products to be exported to the European Union and the cooperation in the IT area.
