The Belarusian government and the World Bank have completed talks on a $125-millin loan to finance energy efficiency projects in Belarus, Iryna Aleynik, spokesperson of the WB office in Minsk
The talks focused on the loan’s terms. The WB Board of Directors is expected to take a decision whether to grant the funds in May or June, according to Ms. Aleynik.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka approved a draft agreement on the loan on March 9 to pave way for the talks.
The loan would be used to convert two boiler houses into combined heat and power plants in Barysaw and Mahilyow and modernize four boiler houses in the village of Ruba in the Vitsyebsk region, Ashmyany, Barysaw and Rechytsa.
Earlier this month, WB experts visited Belarus to look at the progress under projects aimed at rehabilitating radioactively contaminated areas and retrofitting social sector facilities.
The bank has made available loans totaling $318 million for seven projects in Belarus.
